Tony Mazur

Tony Mazur

A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, Tony Mazur has been with 1590 WAKR since 2015. He is the producer and fill-in host of the Ray Horner Morning Show, as well as a contributor on various programs on the station.
 
Prior to joining Akron media, Tony's first few years in radio were in the Cleveland area. He began his broadcasting career fresh out of high school at 18, and has been active in the field ever since. Tony already has an alphabet soup of call letters, working for and contributing to WKNR, WHK, WFUN, WWMK, WKRK, WNCX, and WWGK, all in Northeast Ohio. He has also covered professional, collegiate, and high school sports across Ohio.
 
When he is not behind the microphone in a radio studio, Tony has been seen performing stand-up comedy in the area. He can either be found at a ballpark, comedy club, concert hall, or in his thriving neighborhood of Highland Square.

9:29 - Today is National Bologna Day (or is it Baloney? Is it ketchup or catsup? Anyway…) Ray mentioned how a bologna sandwich has helped him with stomach troubles in the past, which segued into Yoo-Hoo helping the dreaded hangover.

14:25 - From the chaos in Syria to Brexit to the impeachment proceedings, how are these affecting the markets? Robert Dodaro from Prism Wealth Management explains, specifically how the focus on impeachment may actually be a good thing for the markets.

:19 - We’ve been hearing about impeachment, but what exactly does that mean? What happens when a president is impeached but not removed from office? Attorney and president of the Akron Bar Association, Dean Carro, joined the show to share what happens during an impeachment process.

6:32 - Off the heels of the drug company settlement in both Cuyahoga and Summit Counties, where will this money end up? Tugg Massa is the executive director of Akron Say No to Dope, and he talked about how his organization is helping those through the opioid epidemic.

Ray Horner Podcast - 10/22/2019

:19 - No Ray today, but no problem, as Tony Mazur and Jim Albright manned the ship this morning. They touched on the settlement that Summit and Cuyahoga County had with four drug companies over the opioid crisis. Four other states are looking to similar settlements, as well.

8:38 - Odell Beckham Jr. is back in the news, and again, it’s not what he’s doing on the field. Well, technically it is, as he was fined over $14,000 for having his pant legs hiked up too high above the knees. Really. The panel, which included Kris Drew, discussed it, and Kris mentioned how he believes Baker Mayfield and OBJ are a bad fit and why Freddie Kitchens isn’t the answer at head coach.

16:23 - ‘80s hair metal will grace the stage at the Akron Civic Theatre on Thursday, as Dokken and Lita Ford will blow the roof off the place (hopefully not literally). Lita Ford joined Tony for a nice conversation about nostalgia and hearing hard rock music at grocery stores.

6:17 - We’re coming upon the 30-year anniversary of the disappearance and death of Amy Mihaljevic from a shopping center in Bay Village. The author and podcaster who has been all over this case has been James Renner, and he stopped by to talk about the Amy case and discussed the Porchlight Project, which has helped solve these crimes with better forensic data.

16:49 - Bill Considine is the CEO emeritus at Akron Children’s Hospital, and he was recently honored by his employer for his work in over four decades with the hospital. He talked about his career and promoted his book, which is in the works.

LeBron James finally spoke, and he seemed to care more about Chinese money than sticking by his American colleague. The panel discussed this topic, which made big news overnight.

13:47 - Ray spoke with Dr. David Beer from Malone University on a number of topics, which include Turkey and the Kurds, as well as the trade dealings with China.

20:41 - When was the last time you attended the circus? Probably decades, if ever. States are beginning to get rid of the circus due to mistreatment of animals.

:19 - Today is celebration of Columbus Day (even though some communities are not acknowledging it), but how how much do we know about the man who sailed across the ocean to the new world? Dr. Kevin Kern is a history professor at the University of Akron, and he touched on the life of Christopher Columbus.

7:39 - Another game, another loss, another poor display of coaching and catching footballs. The Browns had a 20-6 lead and squandered it to the Seattle Seahawks, 32-28. Ray and Tony heard from Odell Beckham Jr. and talked about the mind-numbing contest from Sunday.
