Written by
Norton High School senior cross country runner Jared Frankland is the WAKR Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 4th-11th.

For two years, Jared has qualified for the State Regional competition for the Panthers, and is a four-year member of the cross country team at Norton.

"I decided to try the running thing and liked it right away," said Frankland. "Some of my friends suggested I try and I loved it."

Jared is heavily involved in school activities, including the National Honor Society and the Key Club. He is preparing himself for college where he plans on majoring in engineering.

Frankland's best time this year was at the league meet where he did the 3.1 mile track in seventeen minutes and one second.

"I felt good that day. I thought I did real well," said Frankland.

On the school track team, Jared runs the 1 and 2 mile where he also advanced to the Regionals.

"There is a lot of practice time and dedication in being a runner," Frankland says. "It is tough, but I just get into it and I really enjoy my runs."

Jared carries a 4.0 GPA at Norton High School.
