This week, our male 1590 WAKR Student Athlete of the Week is Juan Rodriguez, a junior soccer player from North High School.

The Vikings were City Series Champions in 2016 and he said his team grew in their chemistry on and off the pitch.

“We became more than a team, we were more of a family throughout time, and we reached our goal which was becoming City Champions,” he said.

Juan has shown that leadership not only on the soccer pitch but in the classroom as well, serving as a member of Student Council and the National Honor Society.

He realizes that education comes first and foremost before any athletic goals.

“Without education, there's no future,” he says.

The Vikings will have a young team returning in 2017, but Juan will be a senior then and he will be counted on more than ever for his leadership.

He says his goals for his senior season is to advance in the state tournament in soccer and attend college. Rodriquez said he would be the first in his family to go to college, and that would truly make his family proud.
