1590 WAKR Student Athlete of the Week: Madeline Dyer

Written by
Firestone High School freshman swimmer Madeline Dyer is the WAKR Female Student Athlete of the Week for December 1st-8th

Madeline recently found out that she is two steps towards the goal of an Olympic trial by having outstanding qualifying times at a Junior National USA Swimming event in Indianapolis.

"It kind of surprised me that my times were that good,” said Dyer. “I knew I was doing well but to do that well was just great.”

Madeline and her Falcon teammates do a lot of volunteer work in the community, as Coach Cindy Virdo stresses community involvement with her team.

"Yes, we all enjoy working with others as we have a great program at Firestone,” Dyer says. “[It’s] great to be part of it.”

Dyer's great times were both in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, but Madeline is more than a one-trick pony.

"I know I did great in the breaststroke but I believe I can do a good job in just about any event," she says.

Madeline is taking high level courses at Firestone as college is in her future plans but for now, very happy to be an important part of Firestone swimming.
