The North Hill rock thrower or throwers are back and Akron Police are asking the public's help. 

Nine residents of North Hill reported having their windows busted out, bringing the streak of recent vandalism in the neighborhood to at least thirty homes in the past few weeks. Over the past weekend, two residents reported having their tires slashed.  

Akron Police have no suspects and are asking North Hill residents to be vigilant in reporting any such vandalism.

A semi-trailer that was hauling a bulldozer along I-76 Eastbound hit the East Avenue Bridge before 6:30 Monday morning, causing major backups during the rush hour commute.

Akron, Ohio – On December 3, 2018 at approximately 6:21 AM, The Akron Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol was requested by the Akron Police Department to assist with a two vehicle non injury crash that occurred at 06:21 AM and has closed Interstate 76 eastbound at the East Avenue Bridge.

The drivers’ names of the vehicles are unknown at this time. The vehicles involved are a semi-truck and trailer hauling a bulldozer which struck the East Avenue Bridge causing the bulldozer to come off of the trailer. A passenger car then struck the bulldozer

Akron Police are investigating a home invasion along Noah Avenue.

According to the report (see below), three black males broke into the home in the 500 block of Noah Avenue around 1 a.m. and entered the bedroom where the victim was sleeping.

The 20-year-old victim told police the three suspects trashed his bedroom, but fled without taking anything.

All three are between 20 and 25-years-old.

Anyone with info is asked to call police.

(APD) Shortly before 1:00am this morning, a resident in the 500 block of Noah Avenue was a victim of a home invasion robbery. The 20 year old resident reported he was in his bedroom sleeping when three black males entered his bedroom. The suspects ransacked the victim’s bedroom. The suspects fled without taking anything. No injuries were reported. The suspects are three black males, 20 – 25 years old, wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black sweatpants and black hats. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Update: Akron Police have identified the suspected robber of the Fifth Third Bank along South Canton Road as 55-year-old Gary R. Neal of Pocantico Avenue in Akron.

Just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Akron Police say a man walked into the Fifth Third Bank branch at 576 South Canton Road and demanded money from a bank teller. 

Reports are the man, described as a white male between 40 and 50-years-old, handed the teller a note that demanded an undisclosed amount of cash. Employees told police the suspect said he had a gun, but they did not see one. After the teller handed the suspect cash, he fled. T

APD Lieutenant Rick Edwards says the F.B.I. is now handling the case, but that anyone with information or who may recognize the suspect (pictured) should call Akron Police. 

Akron Police are investigating an expensive heist last Friday, that left a woman without her nearly $30,000 engagement ring! 

According to the report, a burglar, or burlars, hit the home on Jennifer Street in Akron on Friday, May 11th, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while the victim was at work. 

In addition to the $28,000 ring, other jewelry, including a thousand dollar diamond ring, were taken in the burglary. Police say a suspect entered the home through a rear window, but didn't specify whether it was locked or not. 

Police haven't identified any suspects or leads in the case just yet, but the investigation is ongoing. 

This Saturday, May 12th, WAKR, WONE, and WQMX, are sponsoring a FREE shredding and safety inspection in our station parking lot at the Akron Radio Center. 

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff's Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be on hand providing safety inspections. No tickets will be given for anyone found to be in violation, but they will be able to tell you what you need to fix. 

In addition, AARP will be at the station offering free shredding services for documents, plus they will take old electronic equipment, such as computers, laptops, and other items; please no tube TV's.

Akron Police have arrested a 16-year-old Ellet High School student after making threats online that referenced the Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 people dead on Valentines Day. 

The student, whose name hasn't been released because he is a juvenile, allegedly posted a message to Snapchat indicating that he was going to "shoot up Ellet High School" and entitled, allegedly, the note "I hate Florida, part 2." 

Employees of Ellet High School, who also have parents that attend the school, notified police about the messages. 

Lt. Rick Edwards with the Akron Police Department tells the 1590 WAKR newsroom that the student admitted to making the threat on the social media platform. 

The boy has been booked in Summit County Jail on the third degree felony charges of making terroristic threats. 

Akron Police were notified of another threat that was posted to Facebook referencing a past school shooting and claiming that the author of the post, very specifically, was going to carry out an attack on Firestone High School. The post even reference February 15, as the target date for such an attack. After investigating, it turns out that post was from one year ago and showed up in the caller's Facebook Timeline as a "memory." 

Still though, no arrest has been made in reference to that specific threat. 

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan says it's a criminal investigation that led to his surprise call Sunday to Chief of Police James Nice to resign -- and not the death of a teenager Friday in the backseat of a police cruiser of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Nice delivered a terse 30 word resignation letter around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. Mayor Horrigan told reporters this afternoon he had been informed by police higher-ups that the Chief was part of an investigation involving his nephew, Joseph Nice of Uniontown, who is under indictment relating to his auto sales business. The case involved possible criminal misconduct by Nice, city officials said, including making derogatory comments and inappropriate conduct with city employees.

The City says it will turn the information over to the Summit County Prosecutor, but wouldn't provide more information or a timeline.

Joseph Nice of Uniontown was indicted for grand theft and forgery in March of this year. His criminal case is being heard by Judge Jason Wells in Summit County Common Pleas Court. The nephew Nice is also listed in numerous civil lawsuits in Summit County, including lawsuits alleging fraud and breach of contract for the sale of automobiles through Metro ACC Car Sales on Waterloo Road.

Akron, Ohio, August 28, 2017 – Mayor Horrigan formally asked for, and accepted, the resignation of City of Akron Police Chief James Nice effective Sunday, August 27th, 2017. Evidence of conduct unbecoming of an officer, inappropriate contact with a city employee and potential criminal misconduct led him to make this immediate decision. The City will be referring any and all information regarding potential criminal conduct to the County Prosecutor.

Mayor Horrigan stated, “These actions violate the mission, vision and values of the Akron Police Department and the City of Akron and they will not be tolerated. All of us who serve the public must hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethics and integrity. It is clear to me, that in this instance, Jim Nice’s conduct violated that standard, and he lost his ability to lead the department. I will not let anyone impugn the integrity and confidence of our City organization, and I will fiercely uphold that standard as long as I am Mayor of this City.”

Mayor added, “What is also clear to me, is that the men and women of the Akron Police Department acted appropriately and swiftly upon receiving information of misconduct. At every step of the way, investigators put what was right above all else. I have full faith and confidence in the department going forward.”

Mayor Horrigan appointed Major Kenneth Ball as acting Chief of the Akron Police Department, effective August 27th. Ball, an Akron resident, has more than 26 years of service to the Akron Police Department. He joined the Akron Police Department in 1991, was promoted to sergeant in 1997; lieutenant in 2000; captain in 2006; and major in March of 2015. He graduated from the Police Executive Leadership College in 2001, and from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 2013.

Mayor Horrigan will work closely with Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Charles Brown and Director of Human Resources Don Rice to select a permanent police chief, in accordance with the Charter of the City of Akron.

A name now for the man Akron police shot and killed 21-year old Zak Husein during a pizza store robbery 18 months ago.

23-year old Shaquille Anderson of Lake Street faces aggravated murder, robbery and felony assault; those unrelated convictions include eight aggravated aggravated robbery counts from Akron and Barberton which earned him a three year term along with 18 years on a gun specification that would keep him behind bars until 2037.

Akron police said during a news conference Anderson caused the death of Husein with the help of an "unknown accomplice" who helped case the business before the robbery. Husein was shot and killed after handing over the money demanded in the robbery on December 8, 2016 at his family-owned Premium New York Style Pizza restaurant. Husein's brother Ammar was a witness to the shooting. The killer was wearing a Ninja-style outfit that covered his face.

In reaction to the news, Zac Hussein's brother, Amar, reflected on his brother's life, and the effect his story has had on others. "He was just another kid from Akron," but yet, "People who have never met him, were moved by all of this. It just goes to show you man, you don't have to be in the world's eye to help people. You don't have to accomplish great things, to accomplish great things," he said.

As an example, he pointed to food drives here in Akron where volunteers joined together in Zac's name, for charity, and against violence. "We packaged over 90 thousand meals in less than a year and a half, and fed 90 thousand children worldwide in his name."

As to how he feels about the man who is alleged to have killed his brother, Amar called him a coward, "It doesn't take a lot of strength to pull a trigger...what takes a lot of strength is to do what I do--get up every morning, eight, nine o'clock...sometimes you do get tired. It hurts. It hurts to get out of bed every day, and work all day. But you know what? It hurts worse to be behind bars."

(Akron Police Department) The Akron Police Department made an arrest in the December 7, 2015 robbery and shooting death of Zakeria "Zak" Hussein while he worked at his family's business, Premium New York Style Pizza, located at 380 East Glenwood Avenue.

Detectives charged  Shaquille Anderson, 23, of Lake Street in Akron with aggravated robbery, aggravated murder and felonious assault. While investigating a string of robberies with a gun in the Akron area, detectives received multiple tips. After following up on every tip, detectives were able to identify Shaquille Anderson as
the suspect involved in the homicide of Zak Hussein. Shaquille Anderson is currently incarcerated in the Mansfield Correctional Institution on unrelated charges. 

On December 7, 2016, Anderson pled guilty in Summit County Common Pleas Court to eight counts of aggravated robbery, six of the counts had gun specifications. He was sentenced to 21 years by Judge Joy Oldfield.

Akron police are expected to announce the name of the man they think shot and killed 21-year old Zak Husein a year and a half ago. They've called a news conference for 10:30 on the steps of the Stubbs Justice Center.

It's been a nightmare of not knowing for Ammar Husein, Zak's brother, talking with Channel 3 News.

The younger Husein, an international business studies student at the University of Akron, was gunned down after handing the gun-toting thief cash from the drawer of his family's pizza restaurant in December 2015.

Several reports say the suspect is currently doing time in prison on other charges and the shooter could be behind several other robberies.

Akron Police are asking the public for help identifying three suspects who walked into the lobby of The Depot apartments at 80 E. Exchange late last month and walked out with two flat-screen TV's. 

In the surveillance video (below), three men are seen walking into the lobby of the apartment complex on June 29th, at 8:15 in the evening. After walking around for a few moments, two of the men are seen walking out with two 40-inch televisions.

Akron Police are looking for help identifying two suspects who broke into Holeshot at 364 S. Arlington Street. It happened Friday, June 23rd, about 12:30 a.m. Police say they didn't get away with anything, but damaged a lock on a shed on the property. See the surveillance video below:

Akron Police are asking the public to help identify three suspects who brazenly walked into a Victoria's Secret store and ran off with thousands of dollars worth of clothes. 

The "grab and go" heist happened back on June 4 at Chapel Hill Mall. Surveillance video (below) shows the teens casually walk in the store and then load up with yoga pants, T-shirts, and other clothing items that were on display on a table in the store, and then run out. 

Akron Police are asking anyone who may recognize the robbers to contact Detective Rhodaback at 330-375-2490. 

Getting a ticket from the police typically isn't a good thing. But this summer, for Akron youths, a slip of paper from an officer could actually be a sign that they're doing something right! 

On Friday, the Akron Police Department is kicking off their second annual "Positive Ticketing" campaign in an effort to connect with kids and young adults in the Akron area. 

Officers on patrol who notice kids in the city doing good deeds, such as using the crosswalks, helping others, making efforts to help curb violent or illegal behavior or activities, etc., reserve the right to write up a "special" ticket to recognize that good behavior. The "tickets" are actually coupons for one free McDonald's ice cream cone at any Summit County location. 

Akron Police Lieutenant Rick Edwards says last year's inaugural campaign was a huge success and the department got a lot of positive feedback because of it. "We encourage officers to talk to kids at the park, in their yards... Anywhere in the community where they're doing good things," Lt. Edwards said, and added that it's about building a positive relationship between the city's youngsters and Akron officers. Lt. Edwards says by developing these relationships, kids are more likely to approach an officer when they actually need help in the future. 

Once an Akron kid receives a "Positive Ticket" his or her name is thrown into the hopper for a chance to win a bike that's been donated by Elves and More of Northeast Ohio. The group has donated several bikes for the campaign that runs through Labor Day weekend. 

UPDATE Thursday, May 18 7:14 a.m.  Akron police are disputing the characterization of Patrick Boggs as a "person of interest" in the case, but haven't gone into more details following Boggs' arrest on a parole violation hold by Portage County deputies. The Portage County Sheriff's Office is referring media inquiries regarding Boggs to Akron police.

The man described as either the ex-husband or estranged husband of one of the Fultz Street fire victims is being held in the Portage County Jail on a parole violation charge.

Channel 3 News is reporting Patrick Boggs served a 12 year sentence for arson and on domestic violence charges after threatening to kill Angela Boggs by dousing her with kerosene and threatening to set her on fire in 2001.

Police say he's not "considered a suspect", according to the Channel 3 Report, but a "person of interest" and referred any questions to the Akron Police Department.

Angela Boggs was among the seven left dead after the blaze Monday morning. Also killed was Dennis Huggins, father to four of the five children who died in the fire. They were identified as one year old Cameron Huggins; three year old Alivia Huggins; five year old Kylle Huggins; six year old Daisia Huggins, and 14 year old Jered Boggs.

An 18-year old family member was not home at the time of the fire as she was living in Sandusky.

Akron Public Schools had a crisis team including counselors at Helen Arnold CLC, where six year old Daisia attended elementary school classes. 14-year old Jered was reportedly an online charter school student.

Official cause of death and ID's are pending release of the Summit County Medical Examiner but a grandmother of the children made the ID's.

The man found shot multiple times off Cordova Avenue has been identified; 27-year old Stacy Parker of Akron was found along the street but died a short time after he was taken to Akron General. Motorists driving were the first ones to call 9-1-1. Police found a semi-automatic pistol with one round chambered in Parker's pocket.

The body of a 29-year old man was found on the side of the road near Cordova Avenue and Thurston Street after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. The Summit County Medical Examiner says he was alive when found but died at Akron General from multiple gunshot wounds. A name is pending notification of relatives.

(Summit County ME) The Summit County Medical Examiner and the Akron Police Department are investigating the homicide of a 29 year-old male.

On 5/9/2017, at approximately 4:15 pm, a passerby called Emergency 911 to report a body lying on the side of the road near the intersection of Cordova Avenue and Thurston Street in Akron.

Akron Police and Fire responded to the scene and discovered the male lying on the side of the raod with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the Emergency Room at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center where he later died from his injuries at 4:47 pm on 5/9/2017.

Akron Police and the U.S. Marshals Office say Kenneth Lindsey, 28, of Akron, has turned himself in on a murder warrant. 

On Wednesday April 19th, police say Lindsey and 32-year-old Reginald Edwards were involved in an argument outside of Lindsey's home on Pine Knolls Drive. During the argument Lindsey pulled out a gun and shot Edwards in the chest. Lindsey then fled the scene. 

Edwards, meanwhile, was transported to Akron City Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Lindsey had been on the run since the shooting, but on Tuesday, he turned himself in to Akron Police with his lawyer. 

Lindsey is charged with the murder of Reginald Edwards. 

Someone is lighting up Kenmore -- and not in a good way. Akron police are digging to find out the firebugs who've been stealing and setting cars on fire the past two weeks; seven charred so far, including three right there in the driveway of the owner's homes.

Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards says it appears the targets are random and there's no apparent connection. Wednesday night an eighth vehicle was stolen and set on fire.

Summit County deputies say a man who tried to get into the Summit County Courthouse bearing a handgun and with a child in handcuffs will face a battery of charges for impersonating a police officer -- and they're hoping other children who may have taken part in a fake "Scared Straight Program" will come forward.

Deputies and Akrn police say 26-year old Christopher S. Hendon of Akron claimed he was a "Resource Officer" and dressed in "tactical police attire," including a weapon. He was stopped on April 6th, and a subsequent search of his home yielded a handgun, a fake firearm, handcuffs, a tactical vest and items with police labels. Charges range from weapons charges, criminal trespass and impersonating a peace officer. He's being held in the Summit County Jail.

(Summit County Sheriff) On April 6, 2017 the Summit County Sheriff's Office was contacted by court personnel in reference to an individual attempting to gain entry into a County Courthouse with a firearm. The suspect had a child in handcuffs with him and the suspect claimed to be a Resource Officer working as a part of a "Scared Straight Program."

The Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation with the assistance of the Akron Police Department. During the course of the investigation, investigators identified the suspect as Christopher S. Hendon. It was determined that on 4 occasions, Hendon attempted to gain access to a County Courthouse while dressed in tactical police attire and carrying a firearm. Each time, he had children in handcuffs and he portrayed himself as a "Resource
Officer." On one occasion, Hendon attempted to gain entry into the Summit County Jail with handcuffed children.

It was determined that Hendon is not a certified peace officer in the state of Ohio. On April 24, the Summit County Sheriff's Office and Akron Police Department executed a search warrant at Hendon's Akron residence. During the search, investigators seized a handgun, a simulated firearm, handcuffs, law enforcement equipment, a tactical vest, and items labeled with police insignias (photos attached). Christopher S. Hendon, age 26 of Akron was arrested and charged with (4) counts of Illegal Conveyance of a Deadly Weapon into a Courthouse (F-5), (4) counts of Criminal Trespass (M-4), and (4) counts of Impersonating a Peace Officer (F-3).

He was transported to the Summit County Jail.

A Streetsborog man is charged with manslaughter after a shooting over a dirty dirt-bike deal gone horribly wrong in Akron. 63 year old William Knight set up a meeting to buy a bike back after it had been stolen from his son-in-law; it quickly turned into a fight and Knight reportedly shot to death 24-year old Keith Johnson as Johnson was trying to flee on the dirt bike.  Knight says he was protecting his family. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

What may make this even more heartbreaking is the victims of the dirt bike theft called police asking for help getting their stolen property back. APD Lt. Rick Edwards told News5 such calls aren't handled as the highest priority, so the family pursued recovery on their own.

(Akron PD)  Shortly before 8:00pm Monday, officers responded to a shooting in the 700 block of Danmead Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 24 year old male lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

On February 4, 2016, a 40 year old male from Annapolis Avenue in Akron reported a Yamaha dirt bike stolen from his unlocked garage. The male then noticed his dirt bike for sale on a social media site. The male made several attempts through social media to contact the person attempting to sell the Yamaha dirt bike. After several attempts, the male was finally able to meet up last night on Danmead Avenue.

The male took his 63 year old father-in-law and his wife. The male got into a verbal altercation with the 24 year old male trying to sell the dirt bike. The argument was over the dirt bike being stolen, and who owns the dirt bike. During the altercation, the 40 year old male grabbed onto the dirt bike. The 24 year old male tried to flee the area on the dirt bike and started to drive right for the 40 year old male. The father-in-law then pulled out a handgun and shot the 24 year old male on the dirt bike.

Detectives arrested the father-in-law, William M. Knight, 63, of Lady Catherine Street in Streetsboro, Ohio. Knight was charged with involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault and booked into the Summit County Jail.

An Akron bar security guard is dead, two men in custody but charged with obstructing justice. The call came in from the Game 7 Bar and Grille on South Arlington around nine Saturday night.

No ID on the guard, who was shot in the hip and died at City Hospital. 19-year old Thomas Dunn III and 21-year old Anthony Cox are due to be arraigned on the obstruction charges later today.

(APD) Shortly after 9:00pm last night, a 33 year old male, working as a security guard, was shot outside the Game 7 Bar and Grille, located at 627 South Arlington Street. The security guard was standing near the front, westside door, when the suspect(s) fired a shot from the southwest corner of the nightclub striking the victim in the hip. The victim was transported to Akron City Hospital where he later died.

The victim's name is being withheld pending positive identification and family notifications. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

Two males, Thomas Dunn III, 19, of Longview Street and Anthony Cox, 21, of Edmeyer Court both of Akron, were charged with obstructing justice and booked into the Summit County Jail. No suspect(s) have been positively identified in the shooting and no charges have been filed.

Around 2:30am on January 28, 2017, detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting death of D'Cortez Taylor, 23, of Manchester Road. Taylor was found shot to death inside of his vehicle in the parking lot of the Game 7 Bar and Grille, located at 627 South Arlington Street. No suspect(s) have been identified or charged in Taylor's death.

Firestone High School was on heightened alert Wednesday morning after a "non-specific" threat was emailed to a teacher Tuesday night. 

Akron Public Schools Director of Student Support Services and Security Dan Rambler confirmed that the email was sent to a specific teacher, but was so vague and non-specific in nature that they couldn't pinpoint any specific threat. "It's an email address that nobody has been able to determine the source yet," Rambler tells 1590 WAKR.

While non-specific, Akron Public Schools, the high school, and Akron Police were not taking any chances. A robo-call was made to parents of Firestone High School students Tuesday night to notify them of both the threat and security measures being taken at the school. 

Those security measures, Rambler said, were mobile metal detectors the school has on site, placed at entrances and throughout the school. He confirmed they will likely remain in place throughout the remainder of the week. 

No arrest has been made and Akron Police Lieutenant Rick Edwards says detectives are working to determine the IP address of the email.

The police report states an altercation started inside the club just after 3 a.m. and then one, or possibly both suspects opened fire. A Canton man and a man from Detroit were both shot; both transported to Akron City Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after 3:00am Sunday morning, two males were shot inside the Clutch Gentleman’s Club, located at 1890 South Arlington Street. The victims reported they were involved in an altercation inside of the club when the suspect fired several shots. The first victim, 33 year old male from Canton, was shot in the abdomen and upper leg. The second victim, 33 year old male from Detroit, was shot in the upper right leg. Both victims were transported to Akron City Hospital by a friend with non-life threatening injuries. The suspects are two black males. The first suspect is about 30 years old, 6’1” – 6’3”, 240 – 250 lbs., with black braided hair, beard, mustache, and was wearing a camouflage pants and gray shirt. The second suspect is 5’7” – 5’9”, wearing a knit hat with a white emblem on the front, a light colored hooded sweatshirt and jacket. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Apparently one Akron thief missed the memo about Santa's elves wearing brown this holiday season.

Akron police say a delivery driver in a marked UPS vehicle was robbed at gunpoint while delivering packages after hours on Packard Drive. The driver was able to make it to the truck safely and fled the area, leaving the gun-toting thief behind. The suspect fled on foot.

s. (Akron PD) Shortly before 7:00pm last night, a delivery driver in a marked U.P.S. truck was delivering a package in the 1200 block of Packard Drive.

As the U.P.S. driver was walking back to his parked truck, a male approached the driver. The U.P.S. driver stated the male pulled a handgun from his waistband. The U.P.S. driver then jumped into his truck and gassed the engine and fled the area. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is a black male, 20 – 25 years old, 5'04" – 5'07", 150 – 160 lbs., and was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and something covering his face.

Akron police and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Tas Force could use a helping hand finding an Akron fugitive.

Police say 25-year old Finess Terry is wanted after a gunfight in a car parked on the 300 block of Chittenden Avenue in March. One of the bullets sailed into a nearby house and injured a 63-year old woman sitting inside; she was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Terry is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information should call police and not attempt to stop Terry themselves.

(Akron PD) The Akron Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force are asking for assistance from the public for information that could lead to the arrest of Finess A. Terry. Terry is wanted for felonious assault and discharging firearm into habitation.

On March 24, 2016 around 6:00pm, Finess Terry was involved in a gunfight with other males in a car in the 300 block of Chittenden Street. A stray bullet went through a house on Chittenden Street and struck a 63 year old female inside. The female victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Finess Terry is a black male, 25 years old, 5'09" and 160 lbs. His last known address was on Duane Avenue in Akron.

Finess Terry should be considered armed and dangerous.

Akron Police are asking the public's help finding suspects in an Aggravated Robbery that happened earlier in October. 

According to police, on October 7, 2016, two men entered Bel Air Motors on Exchange St. One pulled out a gun and demanded money and then struck the victim over the head with the pistol and him several times. 

The two men got away with a couple thousand dollars in cash.

Akron Police are looking for the public's help in finding the suspect in a shooting near the University of Akron main Campus. 

It happened back on September 7, 2016, in the 200 block of Power St. near Rentschler St. One person was shot. The victim was not a University of Akron student, police say. As you see on the police surveillance video below, three men are shown. All three men were described to police by witnesses, but those witnesses say the man in the blue hooded sweatshirt was the shooter. An alert issued by the University stated that the three men fled the scene in a silver car that went north on Rentschler St.  

Anyone with any information is asked to call Sergeant Forney with the Akron Police Department at 330-375-2490. The suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous.

The Akron Police Department is looking for a fugitive accused of murder at a Copley Road gas station.

The shooting happened on August 1st in the gas station parking lot - police say 29 year-old Romeo Thomas was involved in a shooting with another vehicle, when a passenger in his car was struck by a bullet.

That passenger was found dead on Peerless Avenue.

Police say Thomas should be considered armed and dangerous.

(APD) Officers need the public's help in locating a wanted fugitive involved in a homicide that occurred on August 1, 2015 at 1281 Copley Road. The wanted fugitive is Romeo Leonard Thomas, 29, with a last known address on Delia Avenue in Akron. Thomas is wanted for murder, felonious assault and abuse of a corpse.

Around 5:30am on August 1, 2015, Romeo Thomas was involved in a shooting with another vehicle in a gas station parking lot on Copley Road. Following the shooting, a passenger in Thomas' vehicle was struck by a bullet. The victim's body was later discovered in the devil strip in front of 760 Peerless Avenue.

Romeo Leonard Thomas is 5'10" and 200 lbs. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Akron police are looking for a suspect in the theft of three guns from a North Hill home earlier this week.

Police say the burglary took place on Mount Vernon Avenue on Monday morning, between the hours of 9 and 11 AM.

The burglar forced his way into an east side front door, and then fled after taking the gun.

(APD) The Akron Police Department is requesting the public's help in identifying a suspect possibly involved in a burglary that took place on September 5, 2016 between 9:00am and 11:00am in the 1100 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. The suspect entered the residence by forcing open an east side front door. Once inside the residence, the suspect took three guns and fled.

The suspect is a white male, 18 – 23 years old, 5'9" – 6'1", with a goatee and tattoos on his forearms and legs. He was wearing a green t-shirt, light colored shorts, and white shoes and carrying a black backpack.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact our department.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says the state has already saved more than $200-thousand dollars thanks to a rebate deal with the drug company that makes the medication used to help reverse overdoses before they become fatal.

Local EMS, fire and police agencies get a rebate on Naloxone syringes; the drug is often refered to as "Narcan" and so far 82 agencies in the state have taken advantage of the program, DeWine says.

Akron police Friday began carrying doses of the life-saving medication in police cruisers for those times when police respond first to the scene, ahead of paramedics. Local hospitals are helping with the supply.

(Ohio Attorney General) Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine sent a letter to members of law enforcement today reminding them that rebates are available for law enforcement agencies that carry naloxone. When given to a person overdosing on opioids such as heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, or a prescription opioid, naloxone can limit or stop the overdose by reversing the effects of the opioid on the brain.

In March, Attorney General DeWine announced that he renewed an agreement with Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to allow law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and others to receive a $6 rebate for each Amphastar naloxone syringe purchased until March 2017.

During the first year of the rebate agreement, 82 Ohio agencies were reimbursed a total of more than $209,000 to offset the cost of the life-saving drug. "Heroin, fentanyl, and now carfentanil continue to take and risk the lives of many Ohioans every single day," Attorney General DeWine said in his letter. "For those of you who are not yet carrying naloxone, I strongly encourage you to do so. Naloxone is another tool to help ensure the safety of your community members."

According to a report released yesterday by the Ohio Department of Health, drug overdose deaths in Ohio increased from 2,531 in 2014 to 3,050 in 2015, including 1,155 fentanyl-related drug overdose deaths. Attorney General DeWine recently warned law enforcement about the risks faced by officers who field test potent opioids like fentanyl. Alerts sent out by the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in June and July warned that law enforcement should collect drug evidence with caution. Because drug absorption can occur through mucus membranes or broken skin, BCI recommended that any suspected heroin or fentanyl not be field tested as it could contain potent synthetic opioids such as carfentanil.

"These drugs are so dangerous to anyone who encounters them that we've recently increased safety precautions for BCI forensic scientists who test these drugs in our state crime labs, and we also have naloxone on hand in case the drugs are accidentally ingested," said Attorney General DeWine. 

Seven young men -- between the ages of 18 and 25 -- arrested after a racially-tinged attack in the wee hours of the morning near the University of Akron campus.

Police say seven white males were walking along Carroll and Goodkirk when they were attacked and robbed by a group shouting "Black Lives Matter." Five of the attacking group were black, two were white. One victim was kicked in the head until he was unconscious.

All seven of the arrested are in the Summit County Jail on a variety of charges, including riot and assault.

(APD)  Around 12:30 am Sunday morning, seven white males were walking in the area of Carroll Street and Goodkirk Street. While the males were walking, they were approached by five black males and two white males, shouting "Black Lives Matter" who then attacked the white males with bottles.

The suspected then started punching and kicking the victims. One victim fell to the ground and was kicked in the ehad several times before losing consciousness. The suspects then took the victims' belongings before fleeing on foot.

Responsing officers from the Akron Police Departement and University of Akron located the suspects nearby. Officers arrested:

Anthony M. Valasek, 18, of Walbroow Street NW in Canton, was charged with riot, felonious assault and robbery.

Raejon W. Williams, 18, of 6th Street SW in Canton, was charged with riot, receiving stolen property and assault.

Jessie L. Butler, 19, of Clarendon Avenue SW in Canton, was charged with riot and assault.

James C. Vance, 22, of 13th Street NE in Canton, was charged with riot, assault and receiving stolen property.

Shane R. Thompson, 20, of 28th Street in Canton, was charged with riot and assault.

Bret D. Young, 25, of 3rd Street NE in Canton, was charged with felonious assault, riot and robbery.

Jordan M. McCrae, 22, of Bromo Court SE in Canton, was charged with riot.

They were all booked into Summit County Jail.  

An early morning single vehicle wreck on Triplett Boulevard Saturday left a 41-year old Springfield Township man dead. Akron police have not released his name pending notification of relatives. The man was in a 1998 Mercedes Benz driving at a "high rate of speed" near the intersection with Staeger Street when he lost control and hit a fire hydrant, then slammed into a utlity pole. 

Police say he was killed on impact.

(APD) The Akron Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 2:50am.

A 1998 Mercedes Benz E­-class was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Triplett Boulevard approaching Staeger Street, when the driver lost control, drove left of center on to the northwest corner of the intersection and struck a fire hydrant.

The vehicle continued eastbound, flipped onto its right side and came to rest against a utility pole.

The driver was killed on impact with the utility pole. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy. The victim's name is being withheld pending positive identification and family notifications.

The driver is a 41 year old male from Springfield Township, Ohio.

It's not just heroin that's the problem in a string of heroin overdoses in the Akron area.

NewsChannel 5 reports that police believe that heroin laced with carfentanil - an animal tranquilizer - is responsible for more deadly overdoses.

88 overdoses in the city of Akron in the past 10 days have killed 8 people. The powerful animal anesthetic is being linked to two of the deaths, on Akron's Copley Road and in New Franklin.

The drug is so new to police, that Akron and Cleveland police have visited the Cleveland Zoo, where it's used on large animals such as elephants.

Akron police say it was the timing of a pair of Good Samaritans who saved a mother and her two year old, after the mother drove her vehicle into Summit Lake in a failed murder-suicide bid.

DeeAndra McGhee, 24, of Weathervane Lane had her two-year old daughter in the car when she drove her 2007 Chevy Cobalt into the lake just after 6:00 p.m. on Independence Day. The two onlookers were able to pull McGhee and the toddler from the waterlogged car to safety.

Both mother and daughter were treated at a local hospital. McGhee is in the Summit County Jail facing charges including attempted murder and child endangering.

(Akron Police Department) Shortly after 6:00pm yesterday evening (Monday, July 4), officers and paramedics responded to the 1500 block of Manchester Road for a vehicle that drove into Summit Lake.

The driver, Dee­Andra C. McGhee, 24, of Weathervane Lane in Akron, took a 2007 Chevy Cobalt, placed her two year old daughter inside the car, and drove the vehicle into Summit Lake in attempt to kill herself and her daughter. Two good
Samaritans jumped into the water and rescued the mother and daughter.

They were both transported to local hospitals for non­life threatening injuries. Dee­Andra McGhee was released from the hospital and charged with attempted murder, child endangering and criminal damaging.

She was booked into the Summit County Jail.

The first African-American to head the police department in Akron passed away over the weekend.

Few details are available but sources in the Akron police department confirmed the death of Edward J. Irvine.

Irvine joined the force in 1963 and was one of only seven black police officers on the force; he rose through the ranks to become chief. During his tenure, detectives investigating the murder of Dr. Margo Prade centered on her ex-husband, police Captain Doug Prade, as her killer. That case has moved in and out of the courts ever since. Irvine also had a contentious relationship with the Akron Beacon Journal, highlighted by a lawsuit after he'd retired charging the newspaper's unmanned telemarketing was harassment when the robo-calls pounded his home phone number during the "quiet hours" imposed by the Federal Trade Commission.

Funeral arrangements have not been released.

Bond is set at $100,000 for a Barberton man who police say tried to shoot an Akron cop and hit a police K-9 unit.

Captain Dan Zampelli says 20 year old Javon Spells tried to rob a man near Ada and Reed Avenues. The victim called police.

"One of the officers saw the suspect who was riding on a bicycle in the Rosemary Square area. and confronted him," Captain Zampelli says. "The suspect produced a handgun and actually pulled the trigger, but thankfully the gun did not fire."

There was a chase and by that time the police dog was there; the dog actually apprehended and held Spells until he was arrested.

He's charged with felonious assault on a police officer, assault on a police K-9, carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under disability.

A man being chased by Akron police decided to make his own video while being chased. APD says 27 year-old Jessie Smith was in his girlfriend's car when she says they started arguing, and he took off. Officers saw him drive by while they were talking to his girlfriend, and after he didn't pull over, the chase was on...from Firestone Park, to North Hill and into west Akron. 

The chase started with a 9-1-1 call of shots fired and Smith's girlfriend telling police early Tuesday morning he took her car then left her by the road at Sunset and Clinton. Smith's phone was on...and he knew what could happen. Akron police Captain Dan Zampelli says while recording video, the driver treated it like it was a game. Zampelli says the car almost got into a crash with an ambulance, going through a red light. Smith was taken into custody. Police say he had a parole violation warrant out from California, and a warrant from Summit County for violating a protection order.

(APD) At 2:00 am this morning officers responded to Sunset and Clinton reference a shots fired call. Upon arriving, they were met by a twenty-seven year old female who was very upset.

The female states that her boyfriend, Jessie M. Smith, B/M/27, was riding with her in her 1995 Honda Civic when they began arguing. She exited the car and Smith took off in the car with her keys and cell phone. She was fearful of her safety, as he had threatened her.

As the officers were interviewing the victim, the vehicle drove past the officers. They began following the suspect and gave chase after he refused to pull over. The pursuit began in Firestone Park, entered the expressway to North Hill, back on the expressway to west Akron where he stopped on Euclid Avenue.

Jessie Smith was taken into custody without incident. It was determined that he had a parole violation warrant on him from California for weapons offenses and a warrant from the Summit County Sheriff's Office for a violation of a protection order. He has also been charged with felony willful fleeing and obstructing official business.

Officers also found that the suspect had video recorded the entire pursuit on his girlfriend's cell phone. The video shows him narrating the pursuit stating that he is going to celebrate because he is "going to do at least ten years" in prison. He also mentions that he has been stealing cars and "doing this stuff since he was thirteen or fourteen years old".

It is apparent by the video that Jessie Smith had a total lack of concern for the safety of those in the neighborhoods he was being pursued. At one point he went through a red light, almost striking an ambulance that was going through a green light. The evasive actions of the ambulance driver prevented a crash.

A call that brought Akron police to a Chalker Street home last night started with domestic violence charges, but police say they found tools for an illegal fireworks makig operation in the home.

Police say 52 year-old Paul Plazak met officers in the door, let them in the house and after being charged with domestic violence, then his live-in girlfriend, the victim, told officers he was making fireworks in the home.

APD says the officers found a number of items that would be used in fireworks making. The Akron Fire Department and Summit County Bomb Squad had to remove those items from the Chalker Street home.

Plazak had already been charged with domestic violence, for allegedly grabbing the arm of his live-in girlfriend and throwing her against the wall, and trying to choke her.

Police say he threatened to kill her if she called the police. The 911 call was incomplete, but brought officers to the home.

Plazak was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Akron police are looking to question a man who apparently lived in the basement of the home on Fultz Avenue, which caught on fire and kiled 65 year-old Lindell Lewis and 66 year-old Gloria Jean Hart.

66 year-old Ronald Garrett has not been seen, or heard from, since the fire early Monday morning.

Police say that he is only wanted for questioning by police detectives.

Anyone who knows Garrett's whereabouts is being asked to call the Akron Police Department's Detective Bureau.

(APD news release) The Akron Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Ronald Garrett, 66, of Fultz Avenue in Akron.

Ronald Garrett apparently lived in the basement of the house located at 719 Fultz Avenue where an early Sunday morning house fire claimed the lives of Lindell Lewis, 65 and Gloria Jean Hart, 66.

Ronald Garrett has not been seen or heard from since the house fire. He is only wanted for questioning by detectives.

Ronald Garrett is a black male, 6'0", 180 lbs.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Ronald Garrett is asked to contact the Akron Police Department, Detective Bureau at (330) 375-2490.

An Akron man who a woman says was following her home from an early morning gym appointment got a surprise he wasn't expecting - the woman's husband, a police officer.

Police say the 29 year-old woman noticed a car following her, the man inside yelling at her as he pulled his car aside her.

When she got to her home off South Arlington Street, she honked her horn and called her husband, an off-duty police officer.

He ordered the man to the ground at gunpoint, and brought the man down - who struggled with him when the off-duty officer was trying to put on handcuffs. He eventually got help from a neighbor to get the handcuffs on.

38 year-old Andrew Hayes of North Canton was charged with menacing, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

He was booked into the Summit County Jail.

Shots fired inside an Akron bar over the weekend resulted in an arrest of the alleged gunman.

Akron police says officers near Georgie's Pub on Brittain Road early Saturday morning heard the shots, then spotted a man running out of the front door with a gun in his hand.

After being told to drop the gun, the man bent down between two cars, then got up and showed his hands...he was taken into custody, and the gun was recovered in the parking lot.

Nobody was hurt.

23 year-old Raysean Javelle Neal of Dominion Drive was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, illegally discharging a weapon where liquor is served and using a weapon while intoxicated.

He was booked in the Summit County Jail.

Akron police are investigating a shooting that left a 24-year-old injured.

Police say Jawane T. Brooks woke up his children's mother -- who was sleeping inside her car with the kids on Wildwood Avenue -- to tell her he had been shot in the neck.

She drove Brooks to Akron General.

His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

No suspects have been identified in the shooting.

There are some new details in that officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon in Kenmore.

WKYC Channel 3 reports that a Humane Society officer was in his van making a phone call at about 2 PM on 18th Street Southwest, when police say a man came out and attacked the van window with a shovel, then attacked the humane officer in the stomach with a knife.

Police say the 33 year-old man then threw a barbell into the van window.

Akron police got to the scene and say the man was still holding and refusing to drop the knife, even after being tazed. The man was then shot in the stomach.

Injuries to both the Humane Society officer and the suspect are described as serious but not life threatening.

Charges are pending.

(Earlier coverage) Akron police are reportedly on the scene of a shooting involving an Akron officer in Kenmore this afternoon.

Cleveland.com reports that it happened at about 2 PM at 18th Street SW and Chandler Avenue.

The man shot by an officer was taken to a hospital, and his condition is not known.

Not much else is known about the shooting at this time.

Many officers are on scene, including police chief James Nice.
