1590 WAKR Student Athlete of the Week: Lonnae Watkins

Written by
This week, our 1590 WAKR Female Student Athlete of the Week is Lonnae Watkins, a senior at Akron Early College High School, and a volleyball player for East Community Learning Center.

Lonnae says she's been playing volleyball since her sophomore year in high school. She says her teammates and coaches are great to work with day in and day out.

“My coaches are very supportive, they're there to help you if you need help, my teammates are very supportive as well, we're like a big family,” Watkins explained.

Lonnae has a 3.6 GPA and was named honorable mention All-City as a junior.

In addition to her fine work on the volleyball court, Watkins is also a volunteer at Summa Hospital, where she is part of the Teen Leadership Program, as is also on the Honor Roll.

She says it's a tough balancing act at times balancing her coursework and sports, but it's a challenge she readily accepts.

After graduation, Lonnae says she plans on attending either Ohio University or The University of Cincinnati to study nursing.
